L.A.B. Golf OZ.1i HS Putter RH
Heel Shafted
First heel shafted L.A.B. Golf putter. Combines all of the revolutionary balancing technology in a more traditional setup. Perfect for those that love the tech, but simply cannot putt with a center shafted.
Modernised Head Design
The OZ.1i HS head design stays true to the OZ.1 family, while reimagining the flange and cavity of the OZ.1 head, allowing for this unique heel shafted design. A mid-mallet putter profile that any golfer can get behind.
Backstory of the L.A.B. Golf OZ.1 Putter
L.A.B. have always wanted to make a tour-inspired putter. They thought it would be fun because of what they have learned about Tour players over the years. They are positively at a different level when it comes to sensitivities around shape and feel. It makes sense that the very best players in the world require something a little different and a bit more bespoke to them. It was also opportune timing. Over the last few years, L.A.B. had come to understand Lie Angle Balance at a depth that allows them to unlock far more possibilities in terms of design. So back in early 2023, L.A.B. asked their friend Adam Scott if he’d be interested in collaborating with them… rumour has it that they did a little dance when he said, “Yes.”
Insert Options
OZ.1i is the first L.A.B. putter model to feature a face insert. While inserts certainly look cool, there is a functional reason for them. Some golfers prefer a specific sound and feel at impact, and OZ.1i putters have stainless steel inserts that create a firmer feel and faster ball speeds. There are also one-piece, all aluminum OZ.1 models that feel softer. They will be popular with those that love the way the L.A.B. DF3 feels. In terms of size and shape, OZ.1i (with the insert) and OZ.1 (without) are exactly the same.
Design Inspiration
The OZ.1 design process started over a pint with Adam Scott, where he offered two important pieces of feedback about the look he was seeking. Adam has a fondness for the back end of a certain high-performance German sports car, and that was where we started with the back of the putter design. On the front side of the putter, Adam asked L.A.B. Golf to reimagine one of the most famous mallet putters of all time. L.A.B. Golf interpreted the shape of the back of that sports car and the front of that mallet putter for the first prototype. There were things Adam liked a lot, but he also let L.A.B. know that they didn’t have to take his recommendations quite as literally as they did. He invited the L.A.B. engineers to get creative, and after many more prototypes and conversations, the OZ.1 was born.
Solid Body Construction
OZ.1 is L.A.B. Golf's first half-moon style mallet putter, and the solid-body construction of the putter – no large holes or fangs like their other mallet putters – felt incredible from the start. They spent a great deal of time fine tuning OZ.1 to make it the most “normal” mallet putter they have ever created in terms of sound and feel. That’s true with both OZ.1i and OZ.1. Most importantly, L.A.B. maintained the forgiveness their mallets are known for to make sure OZ.1i and OZ.1 measured up to their extremely popular DF3 and MEZZ.1 MAX putters in terms of stability. Like all L.A.B. putters, OZ.1i and OZ.1 are 100% Lie Angle Balanced. Thanks to Lie Angle Balance, both putters feel great and roll straight.
New Vertical Shaft Option
OZ.1i and OZ.1 are L.A.B. Golf's first mallets to offer a 0-Degree (Vertical) Shaft Lean option. They developed this vertical shaft option for golfers who:
Prefer to see a vertical shaft at address
Want to use a standard grip on a L.A.B. Golf mallet putter
Additionally, OZ.1i and OZ.1 will also be available with a 2° Shaft Lean option, which is the same lean as the L.A.B. DF3.
Golfers who choose the 2° Shaft Lean option will want to pair their putter with a L.A.B. Press Grip. Golfers that choose the 0° shaft lean should not use Press Grip.
OZ.1 Custom Options
Like all L.A.B. Golf custom mallet putters, OZ.1i and OZ.1 offer L.A.B. Golf's full range of custom options. Choose your length, lie angle, head weight, colour, alignment marking, shaft, shaft lean, and grip to ensure your putter is for you and you only.
Why Lie Angle Balance Matters
The hallmark of great putting is returning the putter face to “square” at impact, or perpendicular to the target line. That’s not the opinion of L.A.B. Golf; it’s simple science. The latest research shows that 83% of a putt’s starting direction is influenced by the direction of the putter face at impact. The other 17% is influenced by the path of the putter head.
Lie Angle Balance (L.A.B.) Technology makes it effortless for golfers to deliver a square putter face at impact because, unlike other putters, it keeps the putter face square to the arc throughout the stroke. It makes putting as easy as picking the right line, the right speed, and making your natural stroke.
Balanced For Your Stroke
Wouldn’t it be great to know that your putter was created to swing perfectly square to the arc of YOUR putting stroke? Not Nicklaus. Not Norman. And definitely not your Cousin Ned. Just you. And that’s what you get when you buy a L.A.B. Golf putter.
Through an in-person fitting or online fitting, a certified L.A.B. Golf Fitter will determine the exact length, lie angle, grip, shaft type, and alignment aids necessary to take your putting game to new heights. From there, your putter will be built for you with L.A.B. Golf's proprietary Lie Angle Balancing process, which ensures that your putter is Lie Angle Balanced to your stroke.
A Forward Thinking Grip
The forward-press is an often misunderstood concept among golfers, and even golfers who understand it often find it difficult to execute. Success comes from leaning the shaft forward at impact to reduce loft, while at the same time contacting the ball with an upward putter path to encourage the truest possible roll.
L.A.B. Golf putters will perform with any putter grip, and Press Grips work with any putter, but the best performance comes when they’re paired together. That’s because Press Grips are created with L.A.B. Golf's built-in Forward Press Technology. It allows golfers to keep their hands vertical at address, allowing the angle of the grip to pre-sets the ideal shaft lean. This makes it instinctive for golfers to hit up through impact and create a pure end-over-end roll.
Press Grips are available in six different models that allow L.A.B. fitters to perfectly match golfers with the optimal amount of forward press, as well as a grip shape that suits their feel preferences.
